Demography
The population of Borno State according to the 2006 provisional population census stood at 4,151,193 people.  This is made up of 2,161,157 males and 1,990,036 females.  However, the provisional census figure has been contested by the State Government because the 2006 Census did not take place in so many areas in State.

Population Density
bAlthough Borno State ranks among the State with high population figures in the coutry, yet it is sparsely populated.  The population density is about 60 persons per square kilometer.    The Maiduguri Metropolitan Council with a population of 521,492 people is the most populated council area in the state and also the highest density of 1,738 people per square kilometer, while Konduga Local Government area with a population of 156,564 has a population density of 26 persons per square kilometer being the lowest.
